Position Objectives

As a function of the Waupaca County Health and Human Services Department this position coordinates, supervises, and evaluates general public health nursing service programs.  This position is responsible in protecting and improving the health of community through; education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, reduction of infant and child mortality, elimination of reduction of communicable disease, implementation of Emergency Preparedness Protocols in the event of a disaster, and the use of proven, evidence-based data to guide health and wellness programs and prevent injury. 

This position works under the direct supervision of the Health Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision, evaluation, performance management and development of assigned county staff.

  • Participates in the interview and selection process for positions within the division.

  • Maintain a case workload of communicable disease and other referral cases for public health nursing programs.

  • Necessitates work with other Public Health and Human Services staff, health care providers, and regional and state Department of Public Health, to provide seamless coordination of services to county residents.

  • Supports the development and administration of public health grants and contracts.

  • Develop and maintain staff preparedness to public health emergencies.

  • Coordinates Immunization Program with support from unit administrative staff.  Serves as backup Administrator for the Wisconsin Immunization Registry.

  • Provides community education.                                     

  • Participate in a rotational “on-call” duty for after office hours and weekend shifts.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, which includes course work in public health nursing or community health nursing. 

EXPERIENCE:   Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in a general public health nursing program in a public health agency.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  A certification of registration as a registered professional nurse, licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin.  CPR certified.

Starting Salary: $51,105.60 - $65,707.20
